Plants in containers have the same requirements as those in the garden. They need adequate light and a non-stressful environment. Containers with sun-loving plants should be placed to receive at least 8 hours of sun each day. Shade-loving plants should be placed to receive dappled, rather than complete, shade for at least part of the day. Because of exposure, plants in containers are much more susceptible to injury from heat or drying winds than plants in the garden. Care must be given to provide some protection from these factors. Dark colored pots generally absorb more heat than light colored pots.
